Up And Coming Artist Interview: Alayna

The Internet is truly a wonderful thing. Every once in a while, it serves a melody that catches my ear. It’s a unique voice. It’s a passion unlike any other. In the days where music sounds mostly generic, refreshing voices like Alayna jump in the mix and changes everything you thought you knew about the kind of music you liked.

Hailing from the small town of Butler, Pennsylvania, Alayna moved to Nashville with a dream. With the help of her fans through a recent crowdfunding campaign, Alayna’s now working on her debut EP titled “Top Of A Dream”. It won’t be long before this girl becomes a pop-country household name. Get to know a little more about the girl behind the powerful voice here:

Name: Alayna

From: Butler, PA → Nashville, TN

How did you get your start in music?

I started taking piano lessons when I was 7 and did that for many years. Eventually I picked up the guitar. A pastor at my local church taught me some chords and then I just ran with it. I wan’t allowed to have voice lessons growing up so I joined the choir, paid attention really well and did some choir festivals. It wasn’t too long before I was performing in front of larger groups of people. But fun act, I actually used to have horrible stage fright.

How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before?

I would say my sound is country/pop/rock – like Miranda Lambert meets Kelly Clarkson.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I listened to a lot of different artists growing up: Jewel, Brandy, LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow. I was really all over the map. There are so many great artists that I love. I basically take inspiration from everyone!

Where do you get inspirations for your songs?

A lot of my music is about real life situations. I usually draw from personal experience or things friends have gone through.

You recently ran and met the goal of a kickstarter for your EP. Can you tell me a little bit more about it?

Yes! It will be a six-track, fully produced EP with all original songs I’ve written or co-written. The release will be hopefully around April or May this year so be on the lookout for that.

What’s your favorite song you’ve ever written?

I would probably have to say “Crime Scene”. It’s a really fun song about love and the writing process was very smooth with my co-writer, Adam Kowal. Plus it’s one of my fans’ favorite songs.

Do you have any tour plans for this year?

I’ll be playing a few local shows in my region but nothing big in the plans yet.

Where do you see your music taking you?

I see my music taking me very far. Hoping for bigger stages in arenas and just being able to meet a lot of amazing people.

What would you say is the best memory on your musical journey thus far?

Moving to Nashville because it was SO exciting! The best decision I could’ve possibly made for myself.

If you could play anywhere, where would it be?

Probably the Hard Rock Cafe in both Pittsburgh and Nashville, and I’m definitely aiming for the Madison Square Garden someday :)

If you could work on a song with anyone, who would choose?

Luke Laird, because he is absolutely brilliant and is actually from 45 minutes from where I grew up in PA. And Hilary Lindsey because she’s incredible, too!

Who are the people you admire the most in this world?

Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce because they’re all females in music that just kick ass.
